Paladin Purchases Moi-Stir Trademark from Solvay Pharma Inc.

Paladin is pleased to announce that it has purchased the trademark for Moi-Stir brand saliva supplement from Solvay Pharma Inc. Moi-Stir is a mouth moistening oral lubricant which is formulated to provide immediate and lasting relief of xerostomia (dry mouth).

Xerostomia occurs from depressed salivary flow as a result of radiation therapy for carcinoma of the head or neck, as a characteristic of Sjögren’s Syndrome, as a sequela of hemodialysis, or as a common side effect of many drugs. Dry mouth can also be caused by anxiety, mouth breathing, salivary obstruction or infection. The condition may also be observed as a natural consequence of aging.

Moi-Stir is available in a 120mL bottle with a spray pump or in an oral swabstick.

Paladin intends on re-launching this product for the Canadian market in the first quarter of 1999. Paladin will pay Solvay a royalty on the Net Sales of Moi-Stir for the rights to the Trademark.

Lori Poznansky, Product Manager at Paladin, stated "there is a real need for this product in Canada. Before being discontinued by Solvay earlier this year, Moi-Stir had a strong franchise among Canadian physicians and healthcare practitioners. These customers have requested that Moi-Stir be made available for sale in Canada. Our goal is to re-launch this product and capture back a healthy portion of those lost sales. We think this goal is realistic given the pent-up demand and lack of alternative therapies."

Paladin’s mission is to reach $50 million in sales by 2002 by understanding and serving the needs of Canadian health-care professionals in niche therapeutic areas through the development, licensing and commercialization of innovative products.
