TED WISE – Chairman of the Board
Mr. Wise is a co-founder, previous President and then Vice-Chairman of Pharmascience Inc., a Canadian privately-held pharmaceutical company. At Pharmascience, Mr. Wise was primarily responsible for the marketing, sales and business development for the Innovative Business Unit. Under Mr. Wise's leadership, Pharmascience's sales grew by 41% compounded annually since its founding in 1983 to become Canada's twenty-fourth largest pharmaceutical company. Mr. Wise, a pharmacist by profession, has over forty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having worked for Ayerst Laboratories, Winley-Morris Ltd. and ICN Canada. In 1981, Mr. Wise left ICN as its Executive Vice-President and co-founded Pharmascience Inc. Mr. Wise holds a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia, a Licentiate in Pharmacy in Québec, and several marketing and management certificates from McGill University.
Mr. Wise served on the founding board of the Canadian Continence Society as well as the Board of Directors of the Myositis Association of America (MAA). Mr. Wise has been the recipient of two honourary awards. He was inducted into the Canadian Pharmaceutical Marketing Hall of Fame in July, 2001, and he was the first honouree of the “Most Outstanding Friendship” Award of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) in September 2001.
JONATHAN ROSS GOODMAN – President & CEO
Prior to founding Paladin, Mr. Goodman was the Vice President of Business Development at Pharmascience Inc., where he led Pharmascience’s successful efforts to in-license new products and develop key corporate alliances with such companies as Eli Lilly, Schering, Novartis, Berlex, Alcon and Fournier. In addition, Mr. Goodman was a consultant with Bain & Company, a management consulting firm, and also worked in brand management for Procter & Gamble. Mr. Goodman holds a B.A. with Great Distinction from McGill University and the London School of Economics with 1st Class Honours. Additionally, Mr. Goodman holds an LL.B. and M.B.A. from McGill. Mr. Goodman is a member of the Bars of New York and Massachusetts, is an Accredited Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Representative, is a sessional lecturer in entrepreneurship at McGill University and is a part-time faculty member of Concordia University.
MARK BEAUDET– Vice President, Marketing & Sales
Prior to joining Paladin, Mr. Beaudet was responsible for marketing and sales for Pharmascience's Innovative Business Unit. Mr. Beaudet was previously a Marketing Manager with Pizza Hut Canada where he led a series of successful initiatives for the national restaurant chain. Prior to that, Mr. Beaudet was a Brand Manager in Procter & Gamble’s Health Care division and was responsible for the launch of several major OTC products in Canada. Mr. Beaudet holds a BComm in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from McGill University.
SAMIRA SAKHIA – Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Sakhia brings to Paladin extensive experience, including various positions of leadership at Discreet Logic, where she served as Controller of North American Operations, Manager of International Financial Reporting (Montreal, Quebec), and European Financial Manager (London, England). Prior to working at Discreet Logic, Ms. Sakhia worked at Arthur Andersen & Co. in audit.
Ms. Sakhia has received a BComm in Finance and Accounting, and a MBA in Strategy and Marketing, all from McGill university.
Ms. Sakhia is a Canadian-designated Chartered Accountant.
MARK NAWACKI - Vice President, Business & Corporate Development
Mr. Nawacki holds responsibility for all business development activities at Paladin Labs Inc. He brings over 10 years of experience in big pharma, packaged goods and consulting to this critical role at Paladin.
Prior to joining Paladin, Mr. Nawacki held several leadership positions with Pharmacia Corporation, a global top 10 pharmaceutical company that is now part of Pfizer Inc. At Pharmacia, Mr. Nawacki was responsible for all Canadian business development activities, encompassing in and out licensing, product acquisitions and divestitures, and biotech prospecting. In this capacity, Mr. Nawacki also led the development and implementation of a product portfolio review methodology and process that guided Pharmacia's Canadian business development strategy and overall strategic planning.
Prior to this, Mr. Nawacki worked in sales and marketing roles, with a focus on product pipeline commercialization and in-line marketing decision support analysis. Before moving into the life sciences space, Mr. Nawacki worked for the Pillsbury Company where he was responsible for the financial management of the Green Giant business in Canada, and prior to this, worked with Arthur Andersen's Canadian practice, providing financial advisory services such as valuations, corporate finance and recovery.
Mr. Nawacki holds a BA in International Relations and Russian and East European Studies from the University of Toronto (Trinity), MBA also from the University of Toronto, and is a Canadian-designated Chartered Accountant.
PATRICE LAROSE - Vice President, Scientific Affairs
Dr. Larose holds responsibility for all scientific activities at Paladin Labs Inc, including regulatory, drug safety and information and quality. He brings over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Prior to joining Paladin, Dr. Larose was Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety and Medical Services at Schering Canada Inc. Dr. Larose started at Schering Canada Inc. in 1993 as Manager, Medical Affairs and held positions thereafter of increasing responsibility. At Schering, he was responsible for all Canadian regulatory activities, encompassing drug information to healthcare professionals and consumers, as well as drug safety functions. In this capacity, Dr. Larose led the efforts for a competitive approval by Health Canada of a vast product portfolio in different markets including non-prescription (OTC), prescription, biologics, pesticides and cosmetics.
Prior to Schering, Dr. Larose was Assistant Director of Medical Affairs at Ayerst Laboratories. He has also worked as a retail pharmacist and as an invited professor at the University of Montreal.
Dr. Larose has received a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences as well as a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.), all from the University of Montreal. He is a member of a number of professional associations including: the Quebec Order of Pharmacists, the Canadian Pharmacists Association; the Canadian Association of Professionals in Regulatory Affairs; and the Drug Information Association.
MICHAEL FREEMAN - Vice President, Government Affairs
Mr. Freeman holds responsibility for all government affairs activities at Paladin Labs Inc. He brings over 11 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (ethical and OTC). Mr. Freeman joined Paladin in 2000 as Group Product Director, Urology. He was promoted to Director of Marketing in November 2003, and has played an active role in the recent launches of Oxytrol® and Twinject™ as well as the re-launch of Plan B® as a non-prescription product. Before joining Paladin, Mr. Freeman held the position of Group Product Director at Johnson & Johnson Consumer (Canada), and was responsible for the Wound Care and Dental franchises. Mr. Freeman holds an M.B.A. degree from Queen’s University, as well as an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario. Prior to pursuing his M.B.A. studies, Mr. Freeman practiced law in Ottawa.
JOSEPH WALEWICZ – Vice President, Special Projects
Mr. Walewicz holds responsibility for all Special Projects and Paladin Biosciences division. Prior to joining Paladin, Mr. Walewicz was an equity analyst for nearly 12 years, most recently as Executive Director, Institutional Equity Research at CIBC World Markets. Previously, Mr. Walewicz was a Vice President and Senior Health Care Analyst at Orion Securities and a Vice President, Equity Research at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Mr. Walewicz holds a B.A. in Economics and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Queens University, an M.B.A. from McGill University and is a CFA Charterholder.
